What: Real-Self Care is a learning module based on the book "Real Self-Care" by Pooja Lakshmin. Her book focuses on the social aspect to self-care, particularly for women and caregivers. This module is an interactive experience of the main points of the book.
Audience: This module is for women looking for an interactive experience about developing a real self-care practice. It is includes several interactive activities about developing a real self-care practice and an overview of the main points of the book. I created it by using the book as the guiding expertise, and adapted activities based on her text-based activities from the book.
Tools used: Articulate Rise, Articulate Storyline 360, Google Drive
Problem: Dr. Lakshmin's work focuses on the social model of self-care in her book. Her analysis highlights how women are often the subject of systemic failures that do not support mental well-being or respect the time and expertise of women. Her solution to this problem is through practices of real self-care, which are discussed in the project. These practices might not be well-known or accessible for all women.
Solution: This project aims to bring a multi-modal experience to a book. As an educator, I was always looking for opportunities to broaden the modalities of learning. It includes multiple modalities of learning, such as card sorting, questionnaires, sentence stems, visual representations, graphic organizers, and practice questions. These multiple modalities allow the learner to access learning from many different angles, utilizing a core tenant from Universal Design for Learning - provide multiple means of representation.
Design: The design elements of this project were intentionally mirroring the design elements of Dr. Lakshmin's book. Using color pickers, font grabbers, and graphic design via Articulate Storyline 360, I was able to re-create the brand design of Dr. Lakshmin's book in order to create a visually appealing and cohesive learning experience.
